Explained
: 302.5, 601.2a
Exhaust it while paying a cost to produce one steam of no fleet (601.4). It pays only the generic part of a cost, never a fleet symbol (601.2a). It is ready again in your stoke phase.
Supply: Draw 1502
In your supply phase: put the top card of your hold into your hand.
With 3 different types of engines, your mothership has +1 initiative. With 4 different types of engines, your crews have +1 firepower. With 5 different types of engines, draw an additional card in your supply phase.302.14
Types are the fleets of your engines: two Sapper engines are one type, so there are at most 5. Your mothership and crew that make steam aren't engines. Each bonus lasts while you have that many types, and they add up; the firepower goes to every crew you control, tokens too, on both players' turns (302.14).
Initiative 7103.1, 701.2
The higher initiative starts the first game of a match. In every sortie phase it gets the first chance in each window, dispatches last and assigns all battle damage.
