Choose a card waiting in the crossfire when you deploy this, either player's, not an ability. The card goes on top of its owner's hold, the next card they draw: it never resolves, so it never comes on board and its effect never happens, and the steam paid for it stays spent. It isn't scrapped. A token stops existing. If the card has left the crossfire by then, nothing happens (604.7).
