Not when you deploy it: it happens once it has resolved and is on board, after your opponent's chance to react. Put on board without being deployed, as by Resurface, it happens too. In the sortie phase it goes into the crossfire (301.10). A token is a card an ability makes (301.4). It is deployed like a crew card, at no cost: into the crossfire, where the opponent may react, or straight on board when no one can. It stops existing when it leaves the board.
